4-24-18 PaTTAN Harrisburg P2G: SIM Certification day 1 training

Socially Wise is a learning strategy that is computer-based (thumb-drive) to be utilized across a variety of settings within the school. Teachers can utilize it to guide instruction in each skill area and reinforce application of each skill area. It can be used to reteach students who are identified for disciplinary reasons the specific skill area that may have been an issue for them. We also began to develop our own skill, aligned to the systematic steps that each of the established skills followed.

The Socially Wise program assists students in developing social skills.

The Socially Wise program starts by providing a path to social skills training for students to follow online.  Next, the program provides guidance through documents for teachers to lead additional social skills development by leading the students in creating their own plans for various social skills situations.

Implementation in IU 15 Schools

I could see the Socially Wise program being used in some of our special ed and even regular ed classrooms.  As a PBIS network facilitator I see this program being utilized across the tiers in both small and large groups.

The 'Involving Others' skill building session through the Socially-Wise program is designed for students to demonstrate the skill of 'Including Others to Join an Activity.' This activity (web-based video session) helps students strengthen relationships, while at the same time stressing the importance of 'Including Others.' The acronyms associated with this session includes S.E.E. and P.A.L. PAL stands for Proposing an Activity, Asking a Person to Join the Activity, and Listening and Accepting the Answer.
