Socially Wise is a program, we learned about, focuses on student skill deficits and is interactive. I'm interested in trying it.

PA SIM for P2G

During this training, we were able to observe and review the steps for a Socially Wise lesson. We discussed the content with colleagues.

My group reviewed "dealing with frustration"

Definition: Staying calm when  things  don't go your way or when people/situations upset you

Rationales:
-Helps us to act appropriately w hen faced with adverse situations
-Helps us to maintain relationships with others

Situations where could be used:
-Being told 'no
-When something doesn't go our way
-When something is canceled at last minute

Skill Steps- SEE
Sound: Remain Neutral
Expression: Neutral
Eye Contact:  make eye contact when appropriate

PA SIM for P2G Date of PD -- April 24, 2018

During this training, we had the opportunity to review various lessons that are computer-based and discuss the contents of the lessons with other colleagues.

In addition, we completed an activity in which we designed a skill. Our particular group selected the skill, dealing with frustration. We went through the process and defined it, described the rationale and situation where the skill could be used, and we developed two acronyms.

SEE
Sound: Sound is quiet.
Expression: Expression is neutral.
Eye contact: Eyes are closed.

PICK
Pause
Inhale/exhale
Count
Keep calm

Socially Wise: Online Interactive Program, we had the opportunity to use the 'SEE' Method and discuss the different areas in which 'SEE' would be implemented (example SEE SAD- Sound, expression, eye contact, say what happened, apologize, discuss a plan).  Practiced using these with group members and reviewed with larger group.

Reflection: After reviewing the Socially Wise learning, we also had the opportunity to design our own skill from the design a skill activity.  This was of benefit since each classroom/student situation will be different and all social skills are not listed with the
'SEE' Method.  This provided us with a framework for creating a skill using the SEE method and then gave it purpose because we will be implementing these skills as necessary with the students.
