Evidence of PD

SIM professional development was offered on April 3 & 4 by both Patty Kohler and Renee Calhoon on the UCA campus.  During this 2-day training, our group of Arkansas Literacy Specialists was provided explicit instruction on how to utilize the Vocabulary LINCing Routine to assist students in acquiring the meaning of complex terms.  This routine will be used in tier one instruction with all students to support vocabulary knowledge.

Vocabulary LINCing Routine PD on April 3 & 4, 2018 w/Patty Kohler & Renee Calhoun at the UCA Mashburn Center for learning

Beginning in April of 2018, our Arkansas group of Literacy Specialists began SIM training in one of two tracks: General Ed Content Enhancement Routines or Intensive Learning Strategies. I chose Track 1, CER. We spent two days learning about the Vocabulary LINCing Routine as well as processing the year-long plan of earning three micro-credentials by March 2019. Debbie Fleming is my mentor and SIM PD Provider who will support me. The 2-day agenda included:
  • Goals
  • ZUNI Partnership 
  • Overviews and Comparisons of CER and LS
  • Vocabulary LINCing Routine
  • Summer PD
  • Planning

  After being trained by VCU/TTAC administrators, I administered training to two co workers at Thomas .H. Henderson Middle School. The training was one hour during that time we:
  •  reviewed the back ground history of the tool and development ·         
  • reviewed the statics and studies conducted / data collected ·         
  • discussed the purpose of the vocabulary lincing graphic organizer ·        
  • Modeled a sample English lesson ·        
  • allowed participants to model the ·         
  • and answered any questions

VDOE English- Co- Teaching Conference July 18-19

The Virginia Department of Education hosted a conference on "English Co-Teaching" located in Glen Allen (Richmond), VA on July 18-19, 2017.  During the conference I was able to be trained on how to properly administer the Vocabulary LINCing tool. The session was 45 minutes during that time to administrator gave background information, statics, and explanation of the physical tool, guided practice, and interdependent practice.
