I attended the SIM training today at PaTTan with Diane and Patty. The Word Mapping Strategy follows a morphological approach that teaches students to break words into prefixes, suffixes, and root words in order to predict the meaning of words. Along with the strategy itself, the memory table is an excellent tool to help students remember and make connections among complex vocabulary words in content areas. The video example of the memory table was very helpful in demonstrating the application of this strategy in a classroom. After seeing that, I see how the whole strategy would make learning new words easier for students, because they can make connections through the meanings of the word parts.
