03/24/2021 - SIM Project PD Attendance

I attended session #1 on 03/24/2021. This reminded me of the K-2 program that we use for reading called ECRI (Enhanced Core Reading Instruction). In ECRI, one section focuses on prefixes, suffixes and root words.

BKM SIM PD #1 (via zoom) March 24, 2021 8:30 am to 12:15 pm

Learned the Word Mapping Strategy.
Word mapping strategy is a strategy for older students to learn how to predict meaning of unknown words.  It's a method of breaking up complex word into parts (prefix, root, suffix) in order to determine the definition of the word.

3/24/21 BKM SIM Project with Diane Gillam & Tracy Lui

I attended the SIMS training on the Word Mapping Strategy on 3/24/2021.

I was provided with the guidance and tools that I will use to implement explicit instruction in word study with my students.

I attended the professional development on December 04, 06, & 07 of 2017 in Cleveland County, NC.

The Word Mapping Strategy is one I am very excited about using. I feel like this strategy will help all my students in one capacity or another. My struggling students will benefit by being able to decode words easier, and my stronger readers will become better prepared for state test such as ACT and SAT.

I attended this professional development on June 20, 2017.

The Word Mapping strategy is one I can see being used in every content class. I plan to teach it to my daughter who is a freshman in high school in hopes of helping her on her SATs. This is a lifelong strategy to be used.
