Individual coaching session 2/25/19

I participated in an individual coaching session with Patty Graner.  We discussed the need for students to have background knowledge when creating the LINCS table, using the Cue, Do, Review steps, and the requirements for badges.

Feedback from professional developer

I have worked with Judith as I have implemented various LINCs with my students.  She has looked over my various set of vocabulary and the draft LINCs that I have created and given me some great feedback.  There have been some times when I wasn't sure about the effectiveness of a reminding word and she gave great feedback and ideas for other words that might help the students make better connections with the vocabulary term.  Judith has given consistent, timely feedback and has helped me fine tune my LINC process.

I have partnered with Patty and Diane.  I would expect that they will provide feedback on this routine once I request feedback.

Coaching Feedback

I have found the feedback from Diane to be very helpful.  In particular, Diane pointed out something that I did not catch in my own review of my lesson.  Rather than saying LINCS Table, I used the words LINCING Table.  I did not hear my own error because I didn't realize that this subtle change in vocabulary could cause confusion to teachers/students.  I am much more aware of using the exact terminology and why it is important.

Her feedback also made me realize the true power of coaching. I was just meeting with some colleagues and we were discussing how to go about coaching teachers through a new routine. One colleague mentioned that the teachers could video tape themselves and go through the fidelity checklist to see if they were doing things properly.  I added that in addition to this step, it is important to have one of the coaches or another teacher view the video as well. Sometimes, we don't hear or pick up on our own errors, but someone else might.

I find this component to be helpful in guiding my practice with the routines.

PA P2G Feedback request January 31, 2019

I agree underlining the words in the story would be extremely helpful for students to maintain focus on the terms.
I love the cue cards, they are helpful for the teacher and student. We discussed making them into posters for the classroom or laminate them for students' individual use.

Virtual coaching session with Patty G

Today, Joan and I had a coaching session with Patty via Zoom. We pulled together our plan of action for between now and March where we will hold another coaching session. This routine is the one I've done the least amount of work in to date. Plan to upload some hard copies of this routine for feedback.
