Several of my sessions focused on inquiry. Inquiry is at the heart of what we do as School Librarians. My big takeaways are:
- incorporate visual literacy by having students look at an image related to the topic of study and discuss what they notice
- use primary sources as a discussion starter
- It's never too early to plant an inquiry vocabulary. Even kindergartners can understand terms like nonfiction, research, and credible sources.
- Make inquiry hands-on. Incorporate "show and tell" - allow students to touch an artifact related to the unit of study.
