I have been using the LINCing Routine with my self-contained Reading Skills class. I have four students, 3 SLD and 1 Autistic; the class includes grades 10-12. I use the routine to reinforce vocabulary they need to know for content area classes, primarily science and social studies.

This evidence is from one student in a 6th grade remediation group. I instructed this group when I visited the school as a T/TAC specialist

The LINCing routine was implemented in a grade 8 Physical Science co-taught classroom.  Class size is 20 students, 11 boys and 9 girls.  SPED students have categories of SLD, ED, and OHI and are comprised of 5 boys and 2 girls.  Additionally, there is a male student who has a 504 plan and a female ESL non-English speaking student.  On the first day of implementation, 7 additional SPED students were in the classroom.  The initial teaching of the routine was implemented during a 50 minute bell.  The LINCing routine was additionally reinforced later that day during an Academic Support bell with only the SPED students.  Our subject area has weekly vocabulary for the most part and we have incorporated at least 2-3 examples on a weekly basis that the students have provided us to use.

My draft and student draft example will also be attached to this evidence.

The LINCing routine is being used in our Grade 8 Civics Class. In this co-taught class there are a total of  21 students:  9 girls and  12 boys,  9 students with disabilities, 1students with 504, and  1 ELL student.
The school as a whole has approximately 602 students:  283 girls and 319 boys, 62 students with disabilities, 60 students with 504, 13  ELL students and 46 gifted students.
The LINCing routine is used a minimum of once per unit. Currently, we use the LINCing routine to introduce new vocabulary. We have hopes to begin having students independently create their own LINCs after notes is presented.

LINCing evidence

Our classroom: We co-teach 19 fifth grade students. We have 5 students in our class with IEPs. Three of the students are eligible for services due to a specific learning disability and two of the students have Autism. We have 8 Gap group 1 students and 2 Gap group 2 students. We have 4 students in our class that are reading at least a ½ a grade level behind. Our students struggle the most with science and math vocabulary. We have been using the LINCing routine weekly since returning from the holiday break. The students have been creating their LINCing tables using their Chromebooks and saving the files to their personal drives. We felt that this will be more accessible for them while studying their words. Some students have needed more support with words than others. Overall, our students have enjoyed the routine. To get them feeling comfortable with the routine, we provided weekly vocabulary words that we did with them. Most of our students are now independently creating their own LINCing tables/templates. Their favorite part of the routine is definitely coming up with the story and picture. At times, our students have struggled with coming up with a reminder word. The routine can take a long time, but according to a Jan Richardson comprehension assessment, our students’ vocabulary scores went from a 72% pass rate to a 100% pass rate. We have students that are in different stages of using the routine, but all students are using it in some way, shape, or form. At first, every word took about 20 minutes. Now we can complete the routine in about 10 minutes.

I plan to use this Vocab LINCing to instruct students on Unit Vocabulary and Vocabulary necessary to pass the 08 Reading Standards of Learning Test.  I will use this in both collaborative and general education setting.  I plan to use with all 90 students.  We will implement the Vocab LINCing every week, for the duration of the school year, learning new vocabulary on Mondays and revisiting the vocabulary words with a quiz on Fridays.

This was a LINCing Routine that I created to review the vocabulary on the released 7th grade English Reading SOL test to prepare students.

This was used throughout the 7th grade.  I taught in the general education classroom, as well as the co-taught classroom.  There were diverse learners with a wide variety of needs.  It was requested that strong students be paired with students that are weaker so that they might get some peer assistance.  The average class size was about 15 students and I had six periods lasting 51 minutes each.
