I use Vocabulary LINCing weekly to introduce new vocabulary words.

I teach second grade. When I was first introduced to the LINCing procedure, I worried that it may be too complicated for my classroom to master.  I began introducing the procedure in a whole group setting. For a couple of  weeks we did the vocabulary words together and shared ideas and thoughts.  I eventually moved the LINCing procedure to my small group literacy centers.  After some small group instruction, the students took off with the procedure.  They are now able to complete our 8 weekly vocabulary words on Monday and Tuesday of each week with little to no assistance.  During the remainder of our day they casually bring up reminding words for various words that are introduced even when a LINCing table is not being completed.  Prior to the LINCs table, I used a vocabulary foldable and a traditional 4 square to compliment my vocabulary instruction.  I have found the LINCing table to be a very resourceful tool.

LINCing Routine with weekly vocabulary

This has been my first year using the LINCing Routine in my classroom. I introduced the routine during the first few weeks of school with my second grade classroom. I am amazed at how quickly the students caught onto the concept as well as how effective the strategy has been. The students quickly understood the process and would beg for opportunities to complete additional tables. I have specifically used the tables in my classroom during small group instruction with our weekly vocabulary words. I introduce the vocabulary words during our whole group time, then utilize the table during small group literacy centers. I teach all subjects and would like to broaden the table for my math stations in the near future. I do enjoy how the table is personalized to each student with a unique word/story/picture to help them remember the word. The only issue I've had is with a few students who want a concrete answer on ALL assignments. They struggle with the abstract and prefer concrete answers. Overall, I plan to continue the LINCing routine in my classroom.
