UO Implementation 2-22-19

On 2/22/19, we had 13 coaches:  3 internal LEA coaches, 3 External IU coaches, 3 SIM coaches, 3 C & C coaches, and 1 transition coach (some participants had multiple coaching roles).  This training was from 9-3pm.  Everyone was engaged during the co-creation of the UO and filled in their own copy. The UO spans three training days throughout the year.  The initial draft of the UO as well as the draft with the addition of the second topic for this February date is included in the submissions above.

Participants reviewed the first subtopic covered in November with the Framing routine, then we used the UO to float the second subtopic for this day.  Participants reviewed the unit relationships and questions to ensure that they aligned to our "is about" statement and overall topic.

Unit Organizer Portfolio

I introduced the Unit Organizer to a 5th grade English/Reading class, using the VA SOL 5.9 Research. I developed a draft Unit Organizer and then co-constructed organizers with the class using the Cue-Do-Review process and continued, with the classroom teacher, to complete the Expanded Unit Map with the students over the course of the following two weeks using Ready-Set-Go.

Training Description

The Unit Organizer was developed for a training on Blending and Segmenting for Advanced Phonemic Awareness skills. The group consisted of 16 Title 1 teachers, 1 reading specialist, and 1 speech/language pathologist. Each participant completed a UO on their own as Heather and I completed one on the SMARTboard.
