Implementation 2017-2018 School Year

There were 6 students in my Word ID group, all with individualized education plans and goals related to reading. Students began the strategy in February 2018 and concluded the strategy in June 2018. Students participated in the strategy at least 3 days per week for 4 months.

Students overall made progress. Five out of six students showed not only growth within the strategy, but showed growth on their SOL Reading score. Five out of six students were able to move into advanced practice and on to the generalization phase of the strategy. Overall the strategy was a success for the students. Most students had a typical reading growth of 2 to 3 years within the course of the strategy. One student has been able to move onto a maintenance phase for the 2018-2019 school year.

Susan Trumbo was my coach throughout implementation of the Word ID Strategy. She was a vital part of the success of the strategy. All my questions were answered and feedback was always given after each observation. Susan always had great suggestions and worked with me to find what worked best for my group of students.

Word ID Group and Instruction 2018

I have seven sixth grade students in Word ID. Six of the students have IEP's. Students struggle with word identification and comprehension. Students listening comprehension is higher than their reading comprehension.

Lessons are 50 minutes long every other day and run from January through June.

Students began with prefix, suffix, and stem review and have moved through the program quicker than larger groups I have worked with.
