I met with the district MS ES teacher on 11.15.19 and observed delivery of a Science lesson. Typical lesson delivery has included students reading from the text and then answering questions on a worksheet. Mr R and I discussed some alternatives to this lesson format to promote student engagement and potentially higher levels of content mastery. Each of the SIM routines had been reviewed with the district team / classroom teacher during training sessions held during the 18-19SY. Based on a brief review of each of the available routines, it was mutually agreed upon that the FRAME would be a reasonable choice for extending learning in this content area / Science. The FRAME is designed to assist students to organize topics, main ideas, and details while completing reading assignments.

The chapters in the text currently being used in the Science class are divided into 3-4 sections. The FRAME with Key Topic / Main Idea / Essential Details sections aligns with the structure and format of this particular text. Organizing the content for students has the potential to enhance mastery by connecting ideas under meaningful headings, i.e., Main Ideas and Essential Ideas. The FRAME can also be used to help students think and talk about the key topics and important information relative to the topics.

A DRAFT FRAME has been prepared for delivery and use with students on 12.9.19. The FRAME has been forwarded to Mr R for review. **DRAFT FRAME posted separately.
