Plane figures Frame Reflection

I chose to complete the shapes Frame as a review with my remediation group. Patterns Reflection

The final Frame shown is the patterns frames for recognizing the difference between a repeating pattern and a growing pattern. The students are reviewing as we enter into our final quarter, and as such we have been doing a lot of small group station teaching. The students reviewed what they knew...

Reflection Log for Frame Observation

I co-constructed a Frame with my class while my coach, Janet Atallah was observing me.
I received feedback from Janet directly afterwards. She pointed out that I was not doing the Review part of the routine. I immediately explained the situation to my class and then did the Review with them.
The Cue and Do were very satisfying to me because my students were engaged and participating enthusiastically. I was impressed by the information they retained from the previous instruction. I should note here that I used the Frame as a review.

Summary of contacts with Coach and description of implementation.

February 9, 2018:  Reminder from Dr. Graham that the second SIM Badge is due.  I explained about inclement weather, etc. and the due date was extended to March 15, 2018.
February 23, 2018:  I contacted Dr. Graham regarding possible draft suggestions. I would like to use this for Social Skills but determined that Reading would be easier due to my daily schedule.
March 5, 2018:  I submitted a draft to Dr. Graham for review. She offered suggestions as well as provided me electronic forms of the frames.
March 15:  I submitted my final Frame to Badge.  Dr. Graham will review when she returns from out of town training.
March 19:  Dr. Graham reviewed my frame and made suggestions.
March 22:  I corrected frame and updated the one posted.

I like the framing routine. I agree that it makes finding the main idea of given topics easier for students to find.  This helps with comprehension and generalization of information. The first frame I used was too difficult for my students to use the first time. I changed to a more simple frame and the lesson went more smoothly. However, I would like to continue with the process so that my students can use for detailed frames as they comprehend the concept of "framing".  This concept is like many others in that, if used often and correctly, the results will follow.

Frames have been used routinely as documented on classroom observations by administrators throughout my teaching career.

Frames are a natural part of instruction and are used routinely and with fidelity as a way for students to connect with the content and organize their notes.

What went well - Why?  I thought the students were able to give great details about each subtopic as we worked on The Frame.  The Frame worked very well as I had recently returned from maternity leave and needed a way to review the writing process to ensure students were understanding the difference in each step in the process.

What was a challenge - Why? A challenge was that I needed to do this whole group as the students had not used The Frame the entire time I had been out on leave.  Doing this whole group limited student participation and I had a few disruptions while implementing.

What you will do next time - I would have each student complete the main ideas and details section on their own and then discuss afterward.

Reflection Log

It is very interesting to review the video and reflect on how the lessons progress. This process takes a bit of practice for the students.  I really like the flexibility of this organizational technique and how I can use it for all subjects. The students continue to improve with practice. Sometimes I find that the frames do not have enough space for some students to write, so I am able to modify them. A challenge was getting the permission to videotape students.  We selected groups but had to adjust them because of the lack of permissions. Some students also struggle with forming legible letters and spacing. This has improved with practice as well. In reflecting on my own practices, I need to be more sensitive to pacing of students because some of them were still writing when I started discussing the next term. This could cause confusion or anxiety. I will make sure that all students are comfortable with the space, or I could provide additional accommodations.

Overall the Framing routine went very well.

The Frame that I used with my students went well and they had a clear understanding of the key topic. However they were not able to complete a Frame themselves. It would have been too much writing for them.  In the future perhaps I could do a frame where they sort pre-written ideas.
