Welcome to Ellen Wilkinson Primary School and Children Centre Our History The school name commemorates Ellen Wilkinson (1891-1947) a feminist, a suffragette and twice elected MP. In 1945, she was appointed as the first woman Minister of Education in Britain. Under her influence, parliament adopted the 1946 School Milk Act, giving free milk to all school children.
