Global Collaborative ELT Wikipedia Project #Present

Full Session Description: The ELT Wikipedia project started a few months ago. People involved in the in this initiative will write entries about the ELT personality they are interested in, or a term that still does not exist in Wikipedia, or the English Teaching Association in their country. No one is allowed to write an entry about themselves because the purpose of the project is that the entry editors are either already familiar with an eminent ELT personality’s work OR want to explore these people’s work more by studying and writing about them. The initiative is still at an early stage but has already been accepted with enthusiasm by several people and we now want to share it with a wider audience.

Once you go global, there is no coming back! #Present

Being a cultural exchange teacher changed my point of view and my way of teaching among other things. There is a before and after, I can assure you!

Full Session Description (as long as you would like):
I will make an introduction of what I have done in the past years as an EFL, Spanish and ESOL teacher abroad and in my home country. Also, I will try to show how I "evolve" as an international educator after coming back to my country of origin: the ways I tried to survive in a society to which I felt I no longer belong to, how much I struggled to overcome the cultural shock before and after my experience as a global educator. How social media, my school and my students´work helped me to become global and international once again despite the difficulties: lack of Internet access, no mobile devices and/or computers in the classrooms.Besides, one of my blog posts for Barbara Hoskins-Sakamoto´s Teaching Villagehttp://www.teachingvillage.org/ was shorlisted by Teaching English British Council´s websitehttps://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=810516785629877&set=a.4...To top it off, I will include some testimonies (audio if possible) of my current group of Seniors at school who volunteered to give a brief description, here at GEC, about their experiences when they traveled abroad as representatives of our school at the Global Young Leaders Conference in the US this year, 2014.http://www.envisionexperience.com/explore-our-programs/global-young...They also took part in the Model United Nations:http://bestdelegate.com/model-un-conferences-database/I would like to enhance these children´s hard work and devotion for participating and become more aware of world issues. Their participation implied extra hours of research, study and rehearsal, to get up very early in the morning and come back home very late in the evening. Huge work!

Flat Connectors presented at the Global Education Conference

I shared about #TeachMeetNZ New Zealand project that I host on google hangouts.
TeachMeetNZ is a space where teachers share their learning.
In addition I shared about #EdBookNZ where 10 New Zealand bloggers collaboratively wrote a chapter to unpack current generic education terminology.
Here is the recording from the session hosted by Julie Lindsay from Flat Connections.

Connecting Students to Language and Culture through a Culture Cafe

The North Carolina Virtual Public School (NCVPS) is the 2nd largest Virtual Public School in the United States. NCVPS provides instruction in Spanish, French, Latin, Arabic, Russian, Japanese and Mandarin Chinese. Our Culture Cafe sessions connect thousands of students each year through the unique learning experience. When the 2014 Winter Olympics our Russian Instructors brought our students as close to the events through discussions on the Culture and information on Sochi. With staff around the Globe, these interactions connect students to experiences that they could not experience otherwise.
