For this badge I went to the innovation. To be honest I was super overwhelmed by this place. On the contrary, the building is super nice! They have a workout facility, but supposedly students can't use it only faculty (which kind of stinks). When we first got there we had to watch a video on how to work the laser cutter. It was about 7 min then we had to take a quiz. To be able to use this device we had to make a 100 on the quiz. We made a 99 at first then had to retake it.. But we finally made a 100. After that we were able to use the laser cutter. Let me tell you the directions on the video did not help very much. I was so lost, and it was so confusing. They didn't really think offer much help unless we asked, and I could tell we were holding people up. The first time we tried it the laser did not even cut the wood. We then asked someone to help, and he advised us we didn't even have that option on (explain the no cut). Once we got help we were able to finally cut the wood. I decided to make a coaster with a bible verse on it, I was very pumped about it. I first noticed something was wrong when the laser cut past the wood. Turns out we didn't measure the woods thickness, which ultimately messed it up entirely. Instead of cutting all the way through it only cut half of it. I really wanted the coaster so I broke it off with my hands. I would not advise this at all, I got a splinter.

I thought this was such a fun thing to go do. I personally think as teacher we are called to venture out of our comforts zones and try new and innovative things to carry into the classroom. Obviously I probably won't be able to bring a laser cutter I tot he classroom, but I can teach them about it and maybe take them to a place where there are some. Overall, great activity and I thoroughly enjoyed doing something new!
