In my tech request I requested a 3doodler, these types of things are more expensive but better.
I am in a class this semester called digital fabrication and design, this is an art class that uses all sorts of design tech and we actually make things.
The materials i have access to include a multitude of 3d printers, laser cutters, CNC routers, plasma cutters and the rest of the sculpture workshop.
I have so far made a few projects in realty and designed more, right now i am working on a final project that is a combination of a live edge table and acrylic as well as metal.
Firstly as a teacher it is useful to be proficient in a myriad of things, such as welding. You never know when your school budget will be cut and they will need you to weld your own chairs back together to repair them.
In all seriousness these technologies can be invaluable for the classroom, if i have difficulty modeling a reaction for my students, i can 3d print a better model, and turn the process of 3d printing itself into a lesson. If i need to explain Lasers in one of my science classes, what better than to have my students make themselves periodic table coasters, to explain and show in person laser characteristics. These technologies make lessons fun because they are new, as well as having unique capabilities.
