Badge Overview

How to earn this badge

To get this badge you need to explore all of the core group creation and administration user flows. There is a walkthrough below, but your goal is basically to explore every aspect of the group settings in a free group.

Create a Free Group:

From the home screen, click the New Group button. Make sure to populate all of the metadata fields (location, website, custom image, custom url, etc).

Explore the Joining Permissions:
  • First add a welcome message to the group (Group Settings > New Member Welcome Settings).
  • Then try inviting new users to the group by email (click the Add Members button). (If you use gmail you can follow these instructions to create infinite unique emails for yourself: http://bit.ly/WKMIKk >> That will make it easier to test out the new user experience without using tons of different email addresses.) Notice how the email you receive contains the welcome message. Go all the way through the new user registration / group join flow completely at least once... but ideally go through this with a bunch of different users.
  • Test out the error states in the add members screen... what happens if you put in duplicate emails? What happens if you type gibberish? Before you leave here make sure to add at least a few valid invited members.
  • When you get back to the group screen you should see a dropdown in the header of the members section that says "Waiting on ____ new memebers" click that and then click on any of the items to bring up the Manage Invited Members modal. Test out resending the invite and revoking the invitation. Also test out the "View All Invited Users" button and the invited user profile page. (The invited user profile page uses the MD5 email hash in place of their username, since they haven't created one yet.)
  • Now click the Add Admins button and try that out. What happens if you use the same email address as a currently invited member?
  • Now open an incognito window and see what it's like to join the group without being invited.
  • Now click the Group Settings button and go to Group Membership and Privacy. Change the group to be by invitation only and see what it looks like from an incognito window. Add an invitation code and see how that changes the join experience.

Copy Badges and Manage Group Tags:

  • Go to the PD Gallery group (https://www.badgelist.com/PDGallery) and click the "Copy Badges" button. Then select at least 5 or 10 badges to copy to your new group.
  • Now that you've got both users and badges you can explore the group tags feature. Tags are used to create collections of badges and/or users. Click the "Create new tag" button in the badges section and give your new tag a name then add some badges to it.
  • Go back to the group screen and see that the new tag shows up in the top of the badges section, but not in the members section. Create another new tag and add some members to it. Go back and see that the new tag shows up in the top of the members section but not in the badges section. (The system is keeping track of which tags have been associated with which type of thing.)
  • Now create another tag and add both members and badges to it. See how it shows up in both sections on the group screen.
  • Check out the group tag index screen too (it lists all tags).
  • Try deleting a tag.
  • Play around with making some tags "bigger" than others (by adding more items to them) and see if you can get the bigger tags to show up earlier in the sort order on the group screen.

Try to Use the Paid Features:

  • Now check out all of the "upsell" screens that help people discover reasons to upgrade to a paid group....
  • Group Settings > Integrations
  • Group Settings > Group Subscription Details
  • Click the "Run Report" button.

Once you've walked through all of the steps above, post a link to your group in #Link-to-Your-Group, then answer all of the #Quiz-Questions to earn the badge.
