Badge Overview

How to earn this badge

The goal of this badge is to explore all of the aspects of creating and editing a badge. As you're exploring, post links to some of the badges (and wiki pages) that you create along the way. Be sure to explain along with each badge, which elements of the below workflows you are exploring.

Test out the Badge Create / Edit Screen:
  • Create a badge that doesn't have any requirements. When you get back to the badge screen, notice that there is no "Join this Badge" button. (Because there is no badge portfolio for badges without requirements... this will make more sense later.)
  • Create a badge that has one requirement of each possible format value, make sure to fill in the summary field for each requirement
  • Create a badge requirement for which the posted evidence is secret.
  • Rearrange the order of badge requirements by dragging and dropping them in the requirements editor.
  • Test out the badge image uploader (find a PNG file on the internet and use that as your badge image).
  • Test out the badge image maker (click the edit button next to the automatically generated badge image)
    • Click the randomize button... what does it do?
    • Set some custom hex colors for the foreground / background of the badge.
    • Click the dropdown next to the "Icon" header and select "Use text initials as icon"... what does that do?
  • After creating a badge, go back into the badge edit screen and customize the URL (right under the Badge Name).
When you're done: Post links to each of the badges you created in #Badge-Links. Make sure to explain the context for each.

Explore the Badge Screens and the Wiki / Requirement Screens:
  • From the badge view screen, click the "Add overview" button. Test out the rich text editor and try to utilize all of the formatting options. What are the limitations of the rich text editor?
  • Click the "View badge wiki" button and follow the instructions to create a badge wiki page (make sure to add some content to the body).
  • After creating a wiki page, edit it and make some changes to the body. After you get back to the wiki page can you see how to view the version history? Can you revert the wiki page to a previous version?
  • Explore the edit control settings for the wiki page.
  • Go back to the badge page and click on the "More Info" link for one of the badge requirements. Can you figure out how to add some additional explanation to this badge requirement page? Look at the URL and think about how this is similar top the wiki pages you created before.
  • Explore the Badge Settings (click the little gear icon and select "Badge Settings"). Play around with changing each setting, then open an incognito window and paste the URL of the badge in and see what changes. Also use your incognito window to see what the parent group looks like... can you get the badge to disappear for public users? What would you have to do to make the badge only show up to other group members?
When you're done: Post links to each of the wiki pages you created in #Wiki-Page-Links. Make sure to explain the context for each.

Once you've finished walking through all of the above steps, answer the #Quiz-Questions to earn the badge.
