Goal #1: learn more about how makerspaces can directly connect to curriculum (so teachers see it more as learning and less as play!)

I attended a concurrent session called Building Bridges b/w Makerspace and Curriculum on Friday afternoon. It was jam-packed with ideas for all subject areas (core subjects and electives) and how to connect learning in each of those subjects with Makerspace projects.

During the conference, I hope to learn new ideas to implement in my school library, especially ideas to get my students to read more!

I hope to learn how to help administrators, librarians, teachers, and family create a culture of literacy.

One of my tasks as the state level library media specialist is helping administrators see the importance of creating a culture of literacy that extends beyond a state mandated test or progress monitoring, but instead reevaluating how the adults in our students lives (admins, teachers, librarians and families) view the importance of literacy and how we can convey (and practice) that importance of literacy ourselves.

I am still a student at University of Rhode Island. I am hoping to connect with fellow librarians to grow my professional sphere and be able to grow as a leader, advocate and most importantly, teacher through this process.

One goal is to find a fit between beloved read alouds and the standards. A great session was “Rollicking Read Alouds” presented in part by Brendan Wenzal.
