Create a video in which an entire lesson from the manual (from advanced organizer to post-organizer and feedback) is demonstrated. It may be demonstrated with a student or with another individual such as a peer or other adult; the student does not need to be a child with a mathematics difficulty.
Participants
must create a 15 to 20 minute video in which a specific lesson from the strategy is demonstrated.
1. Choose one lesson from the manual, concrete instruction (Lesson 2I, 2II,
3I, or 3II) or representational instruction
(lesson 5I or 5II).
2. Record the entire lesson, from the
advance organizer through the post-organizer and feedback session. The lesson
may be conducted with a student or with another individual such as a peer or
other adult; the student does not need to be a child with a mathematics
difficulty.
3. View and rate your performance using
the fidelity checklist (posted here:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bze986a3xXPWcm8xNmc3T0hoclE/view?usp=sharing). The video and the self-rated checklist
will be submitted to KUCRL for feedback. Scores of 90% are required to earn the
Fidelity Micro-credential.
Guidelines
for Recording Your Video
1. Before recording, set your device to
record in standard definition (SD) if possible. High definition (HD) will be
very large and more difficult to upload.
2. Before recording, set your device on
a tripod or such that the camera records your problem solving actions. If using
manipulative objects, drawings, etc., the camera should show the mat or chart. The
video should show the problem solving process; there is no need to move to
camera to show your other movements or the student. In order to maintain
confidentiality, it is important that you not show the student if you have a student
participating in your video, so keep the camera focused on the problem rather
than filming wide shots of your classroom. The items on the fidelity checklist
related to student participation will be rated based on your verbal
communication.
3. Speak loudly enough so that the
recording device will pick up your voice.
4. Post your recording using a link to your video from Vimeo (https://vimeo.com), YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/),
or another video hosting site. Ensure that all permissions are in place or
privacy settings activated. The link to your posted video will be viewable to
anyone viewing your credential. More than one video may be submitted to
your professional developer for feedback or posted to your credential.
The video should show the entire model, including the beginning of the lesson,
your modeling of the strategy for students, continuing until the end of the
lesson. Submit one video for each credential you wish to earn (addition with
regrouping and/or subtraction with regrouping)
5. After recording your video, watch
yourself and apply the fidelity checklist to reflect on
and rate your own performance.
