Patty

Patty has been a wonderful hostess! She is being very patient with a bunch of oldsters who are trying to manage the badgelist website!

Intro session to the Iowa SIM update included a rollercoaster feature.

Tim shared a video on with us this morning that we could ride a roller coaster in the  Des Moines, Iowa area.  I probably will pass on that thrilling opportunity.

Academic Language Strategy

I'm very excited about the new Academic Language Strategy. I can't wait to share it with my pre-service speech-language pathology students.

The keynote session concerning micro-credentialing was very informative.

Loved Timeline Activity!

What an excellent activity to connect newbies and "old timers".  It really brought the history of SIM to the forefront in an imaginative manner.  So much more fun than just listening to it.

Xtreme Reading Jerri Neduchal

Xtreme Reading - wow! I did not know that this program could do so much for students. It encompasses many of the reading strategies, and is very intense and fast paced. This is just what we need in SC. Mary Etta Taylor is trying to get a movement going in this direction for SC, and I really want to become a Professional Developer and Coach in Xtreme Reading. I will be emailing Patty and Jerry to inquire on the requirements. I loved hearing about Xtreme Reading. (I almost wish I were still teaching.)

Proficiency in the Theme Writing Strategy: Informative Writing

Proficiency in the Theme Writing Strategy: Informative Writing
presented by Jean Schumaker

I was waiting for a year for this Learning Strategy to come out.  Dr. Schumaker gave us a preview of it at last year's Florida Update, and I knew it was what my students needed to prepare them to be successful on the Florida Standards Writing Assessments.  Next year, with the publishing of Proficiency in the Theme Writing Strategy, the SIM Writing Curriculum will be fully complete.
