  • Garner support from other teachers interested in learning CER’s.
2021-2022 :  
  • Complete CLLI & Apprenticeship
  • Engage and Participate in the Course First planning (Virtual session) as part of my apprenticeship. 
  • Participate in the presentation of Course First in July 2022. 
  • Led a SIM overview, Unit Organizer Routine, and Framing Routine Sessions. 
  • Recruit more Science Teachers interested in SIM CER’s
2022-2023
  • Complete Badgelist for Apprenticeship
  • Continue to use SIM Content Enhancement Routines in the classroom.
2023-2024 
  • Instruct Science Team in Framing and Concept Comparison Routines. 
2024 and forward
  • Choose new CER’s each year for the department to learn.
Work with Sean Strickland for mentoring at the school level.

Additional Goals- Renee Smith

My goal moving forward with training for our teachers here in one of my districts is with the Higher Order Thinking and Reasoning Routines and pairing those with other routines such as the Framing Routine. I am moving forward to master that goal. I want to really bring to light that these routines are for ALL of our students so I have reached out to teachers that teach Honors and AP courses beginning with Social Studies. I have also reached out to Debate Club Sponsors. 

The above goal is in addition to my role as a District Capacity Coach as outlined in the Brevard Sustainability Plan. (as attached here)

The post include the past, present, and current efforts being made to implement SIM at Matoaca Middle School.

2017-2018 School Year
  • Science and social studies teachers began implementing Unit Organizer and FRAME.
2018-2019 School Year
  • 6th grade English PLC began using Unit Organizer
2019-2020 School Year
  • Matoaca Middle School hosted a SIM conference for the county and offered professional learning on Unit Organizer and Question Exploration.
  • English department was trained on Unit Organizer and began department-wide implementation.
2020-2021
  • Coaching PLC begins at Matoaca Middle. This PLC consists of SIM professional developers as well as other teacher leaders who have a passion for coaching. They use the Jim Knight Impact Cycle as their model and meet monthly to discuss coaching best practices and needs of the staff. 
2021-2022
  • New English, science and social studies teachers were trained on Unit Organizer. Science and social studies teachers were trained on FRAME.
  • Coaching PLC continues to meet monthly.
2022-2023
  • Matoaca Middle School will host regional SIM Conference.
  • The SIM professional developers at Matoaca Middle will connect with SIM professional Developers county-wide and region-wide.

SIM CER at Spotsylvania High

School: Spotsylvania High School
Schedule:
  • Started with The Framing Routine in 2018
  • Science teachers looked at The Concept Mastery Routine in 2021
  • 2021- 2022
    • Develop and conduct PD sessions on Unit Organizer Routine for teachers
    • Administration support with scheduling and giving time on school based PD dates.
    • Look at data to identify SIM CER that support student growth (support RTI as needed). 
  • 2022- 2023
    • Support Implementation of Unit Organizer Routine
    • Develop and conduct PD sessions based on data from 2021- 2022.
    • Develop and conduct PD sessions with additional teachers on The Framing Routines. 
  • Fall 2023 and beyond, look at incorporating SIM at other schools and more CER at Spotsylvania High.
