Badge Overview

How will it work?

This offering is a blended model, meaning there is opportunity for face-to-face instruction through the early release days, as well as online learning between sessions.
The content delivered during the face-to-face will be foundational to the additional optional activities you can complete online. These online activities will also focus on the Digital Learning Competencies which are now required by the state for renewal starting in June 2019.

At the conclusion of the learning series, you will receive credit for the face-to-face sessions (.6 CEUs). If you finish the online extension activities, you will earn 1 Digital Learning Competency CEU as well as a micro-credential for this area!

What are the goals of this Learning Series?
  • In the Social Emotional Learning Series you will gain an understanding of the impact of social and emotional learning on student success.
  • You will have a more in-depth knowledge and ability to implement ideas and activities relating to three out of the five main SEL components: Self-Awareness, Self-Management, and Social Awareness (final two components, relationship skills and responsible decision making, will be offered in the 2018-2019 school year).
  • Through activities completed in face to face sessions, you will improve in your own self-awareness, self-management, and social-awareness
What you will learn in the Face to Face?
  • In the Social Emotional Learning Series you will gain a basic understanding of social and emotional learning through a personalized learning platform.
  • You will explore and experience SEL components (self-awareness, self-management, and social-awareness) through videos, readings, and resources.
  • You will complete activities (at least one per face to face meeting) to increase your personal ability in each of the presented SEL components: 1) self-awareness, 2) self-management, 3) social-awareness.
  • You will reflect on how this gained knowledge can be put into action to facilitate student growth.
What Digital Learning Competencies Standards will be addressed in the Micro-Credential?
  • Each component of the online portion will have: 1) Initial Learning, 2) Implementation, and 3) Reflection elements.  In order to earn the credit you will be expected to complete all the elements for each component.
  • In the Micro-Credential portion of this Learning Series you will address some of the following Digital Learning Competencies, depending on your chosen implementation strategies.
    • Leadership in Digital Learning - Strand 1: Engage in virtual and face-to-face learning communities to expand mastery of technological applications for professional growth and student learning.
    • Leadership in Digital Learning - Strand 2: Take initiative with own professional growth to inform practice.
    • Leadership in Digital Learning - Strand 3: Demonstrate leadership for technology innovation beyond my classroom.
    • Leadership in Digital Learning - Strand 4: Engage in peer collaborative problem solving through continuous planning, designing, testing, evaluation, and recalibration of teaching methods using appropriate digital technology.
    • Leadership in Digital Learning - Strand 5: Promote open, lifelong learning as an iterative process of success, failure, grit, and perseverance.
