Pick and reflect on an artifact that illustrates the strategies you used to be successful in a task.

Required Artifact

  • Select a photo or video artifact that represents success with replicating the results of another individual's experiment or demonstration.

Reflection Prompt

  • Provide context. What does this artifact represent about how to be successful with the task?
  • Explain the strategies you used to be successful on the task, by describing a moment where you got stuck and how you independently persevered to succeed.  In this writing, you describe:
    • The step that you encountered the obstacle
    • The troubleshooting that you did.
    • The resources and/or strategies you used to overcome the obstacle.
  • Explain how you were self-managing, self-monitoring, and self-modifying in doing this work.

Definition of self-managing:
  • Self-managing people control their first impulse for actions and delay premature conclusions.  They generally approach tasks by clarifying outcomes and gathering relevant data that will illuminate the problem.
Definition of self-monitoring:
  • Self-monitoring people think about their own thinking, behaviors, biases, and beliefs as well as about the effects that such processes and states of mind have on others and on the environment.  They have sufficient self-knowledge to know what works for them.
Definition of self-modifying:
  • Self-modifying people can change themselves.  They reflect on their experiences and evaluate, analyze, and construct meaning.  They apply what they have learned to future activities, tasks, and challenges.
