Baltimore County Public Schools evaluate the current structure and opportunities for professional learning. All of the options focused on seat time and not competency. We had no way to identify if the professional learning opportunities offered directly impacted teaching and learning. As a former member of the League of Innovative Schools, we partnered with Digital Promise to explore micro-credentials for teachers. Through two different engagements, we learned the following:
  • We need to clearly identify what micro-credentials mean in BCPS
  • We need to educate all stakeholders about micro-credentials
  • We need to create a space for teachers to share their micro-credentials
  • The shift needs to focus on learning and not earning
